I’m giving you an assignment this week which is simple, but of immeasurable importance: Listen to Fr. Robert Barron’s May 20, 2012 homily (about 15 minutes) on Christ’s Ascension. I’ll tell you how to get there: Go to http://www.wordonfire.org/ About halfway down the left side of the home page is a section called “Sermons”; click “view all”. About halfway down the page you are sent to, there is a large column of “tags/keywords”–find “Ascension” and click on it; choose Sermon 593, at the top of the list. This little homily will be very helpful and enlightening as you read Ephesians 1:15-23. It will give you an important perspective on the entire letter we are studying.
There is a second part of the assignment: If you haven’t done so already, choose a verse or more in Ephesians 1 and begin to memorize it. I chose vs. 18-19a, by the way. I find that if I write it down several times and little by little take my eyes from it and commit it to memory, it is indeed possible, even in my senior years! Blessings, JC
